Vaca Hey Hey
Just a couple observations about our visit to Cedar Point last weekend. When we arrived, there were a few nifty looking bugs on the door to the hotel. And by a few, I mean a lot. There were literally thousands of them crushed on the sidewalk and sitting quietly on just about every flat surface that hadn't been brushed clear.
Mayflies live underwater for most of their lives, but once a year they all develop their wings and bust out of the water at more or less the same time. Then they start flying around mating with each other. At this stage in their lives, they can no longer eat or digest food. They have pronounced forelegs, all the better for grabbing their mates in midair. They live for about a day, maybe two, and there's nothing on their minds but reproduction. I suppose if this was my last summer vacation ever I would have felt the same way. By the time we left they were nearly all gone.
We saw this sign in the hotel and it put our minds at ease about letting T wander the park on her own, although I'm sure she was disappointed:
